Annoyingly, the app allows you to change the text size, but when set to anything but the smallest option, the top of each paragraph's text and occasionally, the end of the paragraph, is clipped. This makes it very difficult to read. Makes me dread using app. An extra star added because it doesn't break my snowblower shear pins due to careless winter delivery folk throwing it in the middle of my driveway during a snowstorm. Love the content; hate the delivery options (physical and digital).
Former IT guy and this thing had me stumped. THIS IS THE OLD APP. To get the new one you have to g) to the strib in a browser and click on add to home screen. The problem I had was that the old app (this one) showed I didn't have access to it. Had to call support and they added my email to the account. OK, went back to This Old App and same deal. They didn't tell me about how install the new one. Not sure why this is still on the play store since the Strib updated it in August of 24. It's much.
They don't seem to support single sign on. There are multiple different sign on pages that the browser cannot handle. It's excruciatingly difficult to report a missed paper delivery. Finally, for years a css problem that cropped off the last line of a paragraph went undetected. But at least it's better than the metro transit app.
Missed receiving the paper 3 times this week. And the sports section is a ghost of what it used to be. Some of this is beyond the Strib's control. It won't be an easy call net week when I call and tell the Strib I want the same discounted rate I got 6 months ago. But it is what it is. Bob St. Michael
The January 24 update was supposed to fix bugs but now it seems there's more bugs than before. It's more laggy and harder to get the comments to load. Sometimes it won't scroll fully to articles that are listed on the screen. There are photo circles that post over the copy on the screen and it just doesn't seem as smooth as before.
Constantly starts videos with sound on my Samsung Galaxy S10+ when not wanting to see videos; sometimes when the app isn't even open. Secondly, when scrolling page-to-page, the app eliminates whole blocks of info. That is unacceptable for a very expensive subscription. I notified the developer 2 months ago, but still no fix. Ive downloaded latest version, too. Makes my subscription worthless.
This app is impossible to use. As you click into articles it keeps shutting down even after uninstalling and reinstalling. It's always done this if I spend a lot of time on the app reading but now I can't keep the app open for more than a moment. As soon as I click on an article to read I get booted out and I have a PAID subscription.
If I am reading an article that has video, and I switch away from the app, the audio from the article's video starts up and I have to kill the app to make it stop. If I go back to the app, the video is not playing, so I can't just stop it. I just had the audio start up when I switched back to this review, even though the article with the video wasn't the most recent article read. I am on a galaxy s8 with the latest os.
App has gone buggy. In settings page, sign-in link doesn't work and so it keeps asking me to subscribe when I already have an account and I can't get through the paywall. Also, should have an option to email a link to reset password. To reset within the app. you have to know your current password. Isn't the whole point of a "forgot password" link is that you've FORGOTTEN YOUR PASSWORD?? If not fixed soon, I will cancel my Star Tribune subscription.
Going 2 stars as of now since you should not have to do this when the app is updated. It was shutting down before it even started. Fixed it on my phone by going into Settings/Apps and selecting the Strib app. Then deleted the data and cleared the cache. Now able to open the app but had to log in again. Hopefully it will be stable now and I could give more than 2 stars, but withholding judgment for now.
What is wrong with the designers of this app? Worst app ever! Installed on my Google Pixel and it's terrible, almost unusable. I subscribe for my mother and I use the app, or I should say I try to use it. When I open it, I get the unsubscribed version. When I login, the app shows I'm signed in, but does not open the subscribers version, and there is no way to open the paper. When I finally get the correct version, when I hit the back button I get taken back to the contact us page. Terrible app!
This app frequently shuts down for absolutely no reason when one tries to scroll through a news story. It is also prone to scrolling to the side when I direct it to scroll downward. I would never consider using this app if delivery of a hard copy were at all reliable. The app is newly revised and the price just went up, so I am not optimistic that management cares enough to fix.
Too invasive. When I go to a different app fom this, it plays whatever video content was on the last article I visited. Love the paper. Am a digital subscriber. Can no longer use the app because on several occasions, unrequested full volume video blasts have interrupted meetings or attempts to sleep.
I don't understand how app development can go so bad that the April 9th update broke the app completely and is force closing on 3 different devices between Android 10 and the current latest release. The support email in the store is no longer valid and they auto reply to another contact. Clearing storage and settings appears to work or uninstall and reinstall of this app will do the same thing and allow it to function again.
They updated the app yesterday 4/9/22. Now it won't open and my phone says it has a bug in the program. Tried refreshing it today with no luck. Overall it had worked fair before this update but the same issues as others have mentioned. Chopping off the top all letters on the first line of each paragraph and very jerky scrolling.
The app doesn't work anymore. Will not open. The last update was a no-go. Was happy with it and used it everyday for the past 2 years. Now it is useless and my digital subscription is worthless too bc I can't use the app on my phone (where I read my news). Please fix this issue!
The app seems to be a lot better than people describe it, I imagine their update since last summer has helped functionality. However, they can't seem to deliver a paper. I've signed up for a seven days a week subscription which was supposed to start on 02/02/19. I requested redelivery twice and still nothing came. I've called in several times and got credited and apologies. 3 papers have shown up, out of 13 scheduled and 2 rescheduled, 3 out of 15, 1 out of 5 stars.
The app itself is solid and user friendly. My complaint is the limited number of stories you can view before having to pay. I understand there is a cost associated with maintaining a website but the site is an extension of the Star Tribune newspaper and with the amount of paid ads (both in the paper and on the website) there should be no pay wall on the app. Perhaps the Star Tribune app management should look to other news apps to see how they provide unlimited access to news.
I needed to retreive some obituary info from 2017, but everytime i enteredna.e it wouldn't give me articles of things happenimg on the news. I had saved an email with the info, so Icould have the info, but it said it wodn't open, be aude I didn'thave app that could open it. I thought your app would open it, but doesn't work.
Hard to believe they could have made this worse but they managed it! Initial install resulted in an app that crashed immediately upon opening. Uninstalling and reinstalling fixed it for a while but it's up to its old shenanigans again.
